Merindad Menor de Aguilar de Campoo
The Merindad Menor de Aguilar de Campoo was an administrative unit below the Merindad Mayor de Castilla , which arose in the 13th century. It included 1378.50 square kilometers with 86 places and 21 deserted villages . The area is now in the provinces of Palencia , Burgos and Cantabria .
In 1465 the Merindad Menor de Aguilar de Campoo was divided by Henry IV , with the southern part under the same name as before ( Merindad Menor de Aguilar de Campoo ) with the main town Aguilar de Campoo and the northern part under the name Merindad Menor de Campoo with the main town Reinosa . This administrative structure remained until the 18th century. The royal bailiff ( merino ) resided in the respective capital.
