Merope (wife of Polybos)
Merope ( Greek Μερόπη ) is in Greek mythology the wife of King Polybos of Corinth (or Sicyon ).
Merope takes on a found child as foster mother who has swollen feet and is therefore called Oedipus (swelling foot ). Since their marriage is still childless, she raised it like her own.
Sophocles processed this version dramatically. Hyginus Mythographus calls the wife of Polybos and nurse of Oedipus Periboia .
