Merry Christmas (I Don't Want To Fight Tonight) is a Ramones punk song that was first released in 1987 as the b-side of the single I Wanna Live and in 1989 as a standalone single and on the album Brain Drain . It is believed that the song was intended as a Christmas present and an apology after a violent argument from Joey Ramone for his then partner. A slower, less aggressive re-recording by Joey Ramone was released on CD in 2001.
In 2004, the original song was used in the soundtrack of the movie Crazy Christmas . The song was also part of the soundtrack to a Christmas episode from 1993 in the series Beavis and Butt-Head . The German television station n-tv has the song at the top of its list of must-hear Christmas carols.
