Crap da Sass Castle

The Crap da Sass Castle ( Rhaeto-Romanic in the idiom Puter Chastè Crap da Sass ) is located in Surlej on the banks of Lake Silvaplana . The building, which originates from the romantic castle era, has a rich Art Nouveau interior.

Crap da Sass was founded in the years 1904 to 1906 by Nicolaus Hartmann jun. Erected for the German general Graf von der Lippe. It is registered as a cultural asset of regional importance in the KGS inventory (KGS no .: 3282) and is one of the most important examples of late historical architecture in Graubünden.

The name is made up of Crap (Rhaeto-Romanic: stone) and da Sass (= from Sasso ; Italian: stone). Crap da Sass was used by Mövenpick founder Ueli Prager as a second home; it is not open to the public.
