The ruin Turraccia (= bad tower) is the ruin of a hilltop castle at 768 m above sea level. M. above the village of Casaccia in Bergell in the Swiss canton of Graubünden . The castle stood near the point where the path from the Septimerpass merged into the road from the Malojapass to Chiavenna .
Surname
The name Turraccia is derived from the Italian word "Torre" (= tower); combined with the pejorative suffix -accia, this means something like "bad, bad tower".
investment
Only a tooth of the wall in the north corner of the square tower with an original side length of around 8 meters has survived. The wall thickness is 1.9 meters. The reveal of a window can be seen in the western demolition point. Remnants of a square ring are still clearly visible, but have grown in completely. Its greatest dimension was about 24 meters diagonally.
history
Written documents about the construction and history of the castle are missing, but they probably belonged to the Bishop of Chur and were the seat of a bailiff . The construction method refers to an origin around 1200. When and why the castle was abandoned is not known.
