Friberg Castle (Canton of Graubünden)
Friberg Castle

The ruins of Friberg Castle are located in the municipality of Trun in the Swiss canton of Graubünden .

location

The few ruins of the former hilltop castle are located on a moraine hill directly on the road from Trun to Schlans on the west side of the ravine.

investment

Friberg's 1894 plan

Apart from the remains of a considerable tank cistern on the northern edge of the site, practically nothing has survived from the castle . The foundations of a strong tower at the highest point with a side length of 10 by 11 meters can only be guessed at. A mighty wall tooth on the north wall, which rose to a height of five storeys, collapsed on November 16, 1911; the stump that Clavadetscher mentioned is no longer recognizable. Isolated wall remains in the saddle of the foreland were removed when the road was built.

history

Whether the Friberg Castle in Trun is related to the Friberg Castle of Siat is conceivable, but not proven; There are no written documents about the origins and history of the castle. It is conceivable that Friberg was built by Distentiser bailiffs . In 1249 the administrator Antonius der Carnisio is said to have handed over or sold the monastic castle to his brother Lanfrancus.

There were disputes about the castle between the monastery and Vogt Hugo von Werdenberg , who had to return the castle to the monastery in 1327. In a judgment in 1469, the gutt called Fryberg appears in Trunser kilchspell (= parish), which concerned a water pipe. It is unclear whether it was about a courtyard or the castle. It has not been established when the castle was abandoned.
