Mainly the remains of a tower, probably a keep , made of quarry stone walls in the form of an irregular square with a side length of about 6 meters have survived. The east and south walls have crumbled heavily. Bar holes on the northern outer wall indicate that a low building was leaning against the tower here. The tower, which is 7 meters high on the north wall, is separated from the forecourt by a 2.5-meter-wide and approximately 3-meter-deep section trench cut out of the rock . The north-western corner of the wall has been severely removed; the strong corner stones were probably used for building purposes.
From the west upstream bailey and Bering on the east side hardly find more tracks.
There are no written documents about the construction of the castle. Due to the way it was built, it can be assumed that it was built around 1200.
history
The ministerial lineage of those of Pontaningen is first attested in 1252 with the knight Wilhelm (1252–78). Often they were in the service of the Disentis monastery as witnesses, guarantors, mediators and ambassadors, in 1278 with Wilhelm and his son Hugo also among the enemies of the monastery, who assaulted Walter von Vaz on the monastery property. In 1391 Heinrich was Klostervogt ( ... junkher Heinr. Von Puntningen vogt Thisentis ) and Wilhelm was Amman von Disentis at the beginning of the 15th century.
The most important representative of the family was Peter, who was abbot of Disentis from 1402 to 1438 and who contributed to the creation of the Upper League, which in 1424 led to the creation of the Gray League . In 1339 Hugo and 1363 Ulrich sat as Ammann in the monastic dominion in the Urserental on the other side of the Oberalp Pass .
The castle is only mentioned once in a document: In 1300 Abbot Nikolaus von Disentis transferred serfs to the Wettingen monastery: ... ante castrum Bultringen. The lineage of those from Pontaningen can be traced back to the middle of the 16th century.
At present (summer 2007) security work is being carried out on the facility.
