From the original system nor the Western square is just keep received his floor plan of about ten to ten meters. The wall thickness on the ground floor is 2.2 meters. The top two of the three floors were added later, which can be seen from the different masonry. The walls consist of large blocks, the corners of bosses ashlars . The high entrance with a well-preserved arch was in the south-east wall on the second floor and was accessible via an arcade, as some remains of beams show. At the southeast corner, about two meters above ground level, a boss block shows a human face, which can hardly be recognized as such. Inside, a chimney niche with a smoke outlet shows that the tower was inhabited. The tower can be entered through an opening that was subsequently broken into.

On July 2, 1470, when Vogt Otto Paul von Capol , who was appointed as administrator, and his wife were invited to the Lords of Reichenau, the castle burned down; The reason was negligence in dealing with fire. The bailiff's two children and the maid are said to have perished in the fire. Then the castle was probably abandoned.

Of a second tower of about the same size, probably of older origin and of unknown height on the east side, only the remains of the wall are preserved. The two towers could have been connected by a wall.

history

The history of the castle on Canaschal is closely related to the history of Hohentrin's rule. During the feudal period , Trin formed together with Tamins and Reichenau the rule of Hohentrin. According to excavation results, the actual Hohentrins Castle, which was previously thought to be in Canaschal's west tower, was located at Crap Sogn Parcazi to the west of the village.

However, it is not known who built Canaschal. According to an uncertain source (Hans Erni: II Signuradi da Trin, 1945), Pippin the Younger , the father of Charlemagne , built Camaschal 714 to 718.

After the Lords of Hohentrins died out, the rule and castle first went to the Barons of Wildenberg , later in the possession of the Lords of Werdenberg-Heiligenberg , who, however, pledged them twice to the Barons of Rhäzüns in the second half of the 14th century .

After the death of Count Hugo V. von Werdenberg, the rule of Hohentrin passed in 1428 to his nephew from Engen in southern Baden, Peter von Hewen, who was married to Anna von Werdenberg ( Heinrich von Hewen ). Hohentrins remained in the possession of the Hewen family until 1568 , then passed to Johann von Planta and fifteen years later to Rudolf von Schauenstein in Haldenstein . In 1616 the community of Trin was able to buy itself out of the rule, whereupon the seat of the rule of Hohentrin was relocated to Reichenau.
