In the 13th and early 14th centuries, the barons of Wildenberg were a noble noble family from the Vorderrheintal in the Swiss canton of Graubünden .

The von Wildenberg were of the same tribe as the Frauenberg of the castle of the same name from neighboring Ruschein , with the barons of Greifenstein and the barons of Sagogn . They had extensive property around Falera , Waltensburg , in the Albula valley and in the Engadine . Wildenberg Castle, named after them, still stands in Zernez today .

In 1126, Hemma von Sagogn-Wolfertschwende and her son Cuno von Wildenberg founded the Rot monastery near Biberach , which was repeatedly endowed with foundations until the beginning of the 14th century. In 1252 Heinrich von Wildenberg, who is referred to as the son of Albert von Greifenstein, appears for the first time in a document in connection with a dispute between the bishop of Chur and the governors of Matsch .

In 1257 the Wildenbergers are attested as governors of the Disentis monastery . In 1261 the family with the umbrella bailiff also took over the associated castles of Freudenberg and Wartenstein via the Pfäfers monastery .

With Heinrich von Wildenberg, the male line died out in 1302. Via the heir daughter Anna von Wildenberg (mentioned 1320, † 1334), who was married to the Disentis monastery bailiff Hugo von Werdenberg, Wildenberg Castle in Falera came into the possession of the Counts of Werdenberg-Heiligenberg through inheritance in 1319 . The last bearer of the name Wildenberg was Agnes, abbess of Schänis Monastery (1362–1400).
