The castle Cartatscha is the ruins of a hilltop castle in the municipality of Trun in the Swiss canton of Grisons .
location
The tower of Cartatscha lies on a terrace-like descending moraine ridge at 1012 m above sea level. M. above Trun, in the south of an old group of houses and the St. Valentin chapel.
investment
A massive keep with a square floor plan of 10.5 meters and a wall thickness of around 2.8 meters has been preserved. The walls consist of larger than average, carefully hewn blocks and corner stones with good edges. There is a narrow notch on the west and east side and a single console stone protrudes from the south wall . A missing entrance in the visible walls refers to another stone upper floor with a high entrance and the living rooms, possibly covered by a protruding wooden superstructure. The lack of rubble and the neat horizontal demarcation of the walls suggest that the demolition is planned.
Former scanty traces of a curtain wall in the west have slipped on the steep terrain. In the longer term, the tower itself is likely to be threatened, as the spoiler edge extends right up to the tower.
history
Written documents about the origins and history of the castle are missing, the construction is assumed to have been in the 13th century. Presumably it was the seat of a ministerial or official of the Disentis monastery , perhaps the Ministeriale Olricus de Crestazia mentioned in 1261 . It is not known when the castle was abandoned.
