Mersuanch

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Mersuanch was an ancient Egyptian civil servant who lived in the first half of the 5th Dynasty (around 2450 BC). He is best known for his mastaba in Giza , which contained a number of well-preserved statues depicting him and family members. Mersuanch had various titles, some of which are otherwise barely documented and whose translation is therefore not always unproblematic. Mersuanch was a friend of Rawer , ruler of the young men of the palace , ruler of all possessions inside and outside, and inspector of the priests of the dead .

His mother was the head of the weavers of the Rudsaues palace . Iimeret and Hathorwer were his daughters. Chenu, Chumhesef and Ptahneferseschem are named as sons in his mastaba. The name of his wife is not known.

His mastaba is a rather modest building. Only individual components of the cult chapel are decorated with inscriptions. A number of well-preserved statues come from the grave complex. A group of statues shows Mersuanch three times, once standing and twice seated. Another statue shows a beer brewer. A double statue shows Mersuanch standing twice. Another double statue shows a man and a woman. The sculpture is unlabeled. A group of three shows Mersuanch in the middle and a daughter to the left and right. A double statue shows Mersuanch and his wife. The statue is not well preserved. Especially the torsos are missing today. Another statue shows a standing man. The statue is unlabeled.
