Mertz-Ninnis Valley

The Mertz-Ninnis Valley is a deep-sea trench in the D'Urville Sea off the East Antarctic George V coast . It is located east of the Mertz glacier tongue .
The namesake of the name recognized by the Advisory Committee for Undersea Features in December 1971 are the Swiss Xavier Mertz (1882-1913) and the Briton Belgrave Ninnis (1887-1912), participants in the Australasian Antarctic Expedition (1911-1914) under the direction of the Australian polar explorer Douglas Mawson , the one who died.
