history

The Mesenstein made in 1959

In the forest on the slope of the Deister, northeast of Münder, a cross stone lying half in the ground was found around 1900. As a result of later deforestation, the location was soon outside the forest in the open field. The stone was then placed a little above where it was found at the current location at the edge of the forest. Today the panorama path runs from the goat beech towards Springe .

In 1959, master sculptor Willy Meyer from Bad Münder made a Mesenstein that was redesigned according to traditional motifs. The Bad Münder spa and tourist office placed this stone next to the original. The original Mesenstein was stolen in 1968. Some time later he was found in the middle of the town of Bad Münder am Steinhof. Before the administration could set it up again at the old location, the Mesenstein was stolen again and has been missing since then.

Since then, only the new Mesenstein, made in 1959, has stood on the Panoramaweg, and since 2003 a wooden plaque with a short version of Mese's story has been set up by the Kur- und Verkehrsverein.

description

The mesen stone found in 1900 was badly weathered and damaged by the lack of its upper part. One side showed the lower shaft of a grooved cross on a semicircle, on the other side fragments of an inscription were difficult to read.

The Mesenstein made in 1959 is a 1.15 m high, 50 cm wide and 15 cm thick block made of limestone . The saying stands above a wild boar's head with contours emphasized by engraving

“Curt Mese. Hei grunzet as en Swin un is for en Swin created. The Sele Godt gnedich syn. "

Lore

Information board on the Mesenstein

It was, depending on the source, around 1900 or more than 200 years ago. Two citizens of Münder met on the Deister slope and decided to go wild boar hunting together. While his friend quickly went to get his rifle, Cordt Mese allowed himself a joke. He hid in the bushes near the agreed meeting point and greeted the returnee with a grunt. This shot immediately and fatally injured Mese. The dying Mese was just able to describe the course of events to the helpers who were brought in.

The Mesenstein is used to commemorate today's hunters.
