Mesostichon
A mesostichon (from the Greek μέσος mésos = in the middle and στίχος stíchos = line) is a verse or poem in which a vertical row of letters results in a word or a sentence.
Example:
Anh a lten!
Beh u pen?
Ums t inherent
dav o nfahren.
Another example of a mesostichon comes from the Baroque period: Johannes Hemelingius built in a poem of praise for Arnoldus Möller the name of the addressee as an acro as well as a mesostichon as well as a telestichon .
Mesosticha can also be a method of steganography , i.e. the encryption of texts. John Cage developed a method of extracting mesostichah from epic texts. For example, Urban Circus on Berlin Alexanderplatz was created from Döblin's work.
