The Augsburg Ski Museum is located in the Augsburg textile district and deals with the history and development of modern skiing . It exhibits various historical and contemporary exhibits on an area of ​​300 m².

The ski museum was housed on a separate floor of the factory castle , a former factory building of a spinning and weaving mill, where it shares space with the Augsburg Turbine Museum . The factory palace is located in the textile district on the eastern edge of the old town .

Establishment and operation

At the beginning of December 2006 the ski museum was opened by an Augsburg sales house for sports goods to increase the attractiveness of its sales area, which is also located in the factory palace, after it had previously been designed by Horst Remmelmayr, a ski expert from TSV Schwaben Augsburg . The museum is maintained and operated by the company mentioned and is open during normal sports goods sales.

The ski museum was put together from exhibits from collectors from Germany , Japan , Norway , Austria and the Sudetenland .

The focus is on the development of winter sports equipment during the 20th century, so that accordingly 200 ski models of both historical and modern designs and matching 30 pairs of different ski boots are on display. The highlight of the exhibition is a rein ski from 1890. Cross-country skis and boots and ice skates can also be viewed.

Another focus of the exhibition is on print products, especially from the first years of professional skiing. So you can not only look at pictures, calendars, literature and newspaper clippings, but also all the colored advertising posters of the Olympic Winter Games since 1924.
