Metaconsense

As Metakonsens within the will BDSM controversial scene erotic role playing called that move on the borderline between consensual and non-consensual act. In German, the metaconsense is also less often referred to using the English term “ consensual non-consent ” ( CNC , consensual non-consent ).

application

In such a scenario, the top (active partner) receives conscious permission in advance from the bottom (passive partner) to decide on the limits of the role play or the so-called session according to his own degree. In contrast to the generally recognized principles of safe, sensible and consensual action ( SSC ), in which the bottom can end the game at any time by using an agreed signal, usually the so-called safe word , this option is deliberately avoided here. It is therefore agreed to continue the game, if necessary, without mutual agreement.

Exemplary practices in this context can be the so-called tunnel games, which, once started, cannot be finished before a certain period has elapsed (e.g. use of irritating, warming ointments or figging ).

The metaconsensus can be extended beyond the sexual area to the entire partnership (see Total Power Exchange ).

Discussion within the BDSM scene

Metaconsensus is considered controversial both inside and outside the scene.

  • Proponents emphasize the fact that the bottom consciously engages in such a scenario and would only engage in metaconsensual games within an established relationship and on a solid foundation of trust. It is argued that an experienced top partner of the bottom has no interest in permanently damaging the bottom and would stop the game if a real danger arises.
  • Critics point out that the bottom has a real, potentially non-consensual experience and that it is not clear whether and what psychological damage this could lead to. According to the critical argumentation within metaconsensual role-play, emergencies and extreme situations often lead to severe psychological exceptional situations (crashes) .

Legal position

The legal situation is unclear and, depending on the national framework, is very different. The difference to other types of BDSM is that the consent cannot be withdrawn at any time, as usual. This gives rise to further legal problems, which is why this type of game can quickly slip into criminal liability or would be punishable from the outset.
