Figging is a sexual practice in BDSM in which a prepared piece of ginger (similar to a suppository or a small butt plug ) is inserted as a foreign body into the anus and rectum of the bottom .

functionality

Since the information contained in ginger essential oils  - especially the pungent materials belonging gingerols and shogaols  - the nociceptors in the mucosa excite (these are those receptors else in heat and abrasive respond stimuli), this results in an almost immediate and sustained Warmth and pain (“burning”) at this point.

Figging is painful, but in contrast to mechanically induced stimuli (e.g. by fisting ) there is no risk of injury, because the heat and the burning sensation are only felt and last a short time. Figging can be perceived as a humiliating form of corporal punishment ; as such, the practice for BDSM games is appealing, u. a. also to intensify the punishment experience with a simultaneous punishment of the buttocks . On the other hand, figging has the side effect of increasing blood flow to the genital organs , so that sexual pleasure can be increased and orgasms can be intensified.

The effect of the ginger builds up to its peak within about two to five minutes and then lasts between about 20 and 30 minutes, in extreme cases a few hours, even after the ginger has been removed again.

application

To prepare, a finger-sized fresh piece of ginger rhizome (ginger root) is peeled with a paring knife and carved into a suitable shape. A butt-plug-like shape ensures that the inserted piece of ginger can be held by the internal and external sphincter . Before the piece of ginger is inserted into the anus, a warm enema can be used to cleanse the rectum (as with all anal practices) .

In addition to the introduction into the anus, freshly peeled pieces of ginger or juice squeezed from them can also be used to irritate the vagina (or the labia and clitoris ) or the glans of the penis , depending on your preference . The strength and type of effect of ginger juice depends on the level of the dose administered and can also be increased or varied by the duration of use. In small doses and applied once, ginger juice has an orgasm-promoting effect in most cases. With higher doses or longer exposure times, the pleasure is increased, but the orgasm is prevented for a while.

It is advisable to wash the hands that have come into contact with the peeled ginger thoroughly with soap and avoid contact with the eyes .

Less common variants

Instead of fresh ginger, ground ginger spices can also be used. The sexual organs must, however, due to the lack of moisture in the spice z. B. be wetted with saliva to achieve the desired effect. The warm, sharp feeling sets in after about two minutes, but in this case only lasts about ten minutes.

Occasionally chili is used for figging instead of ginger . However, because of their high capsaicin content, chili peppers are very irritating, which can lead to long-lasting severe pain in the anal area. Therefore, the comparatively mild heat of ginger is preferred. Acid (e.g. lemon juice ) is also perceived as pungent, but unpleasant (a “high” pain, not a “deep”) and is therefore rarely used for figging.

History and origins

There are two traditions about the historical origins of this practice. One says that horse sellers (see Rosstäuscher ) inserted such a piece of ginger into the anus of their horses , making them livelier and keeping their tails high. Thus a higher price could be achieved for a horse. The colloquial English expression to gin up is derived from this practice (for example: improve something, "spice it up", e.g. a report; the word gin here stands for ginger (ginger), not for the drink gin ).

According to another tradition, figging was also a rare practice in the Victorian era as part of corporal punishment, in order to additionally punish a "naughty" child when he was punished and to prevent the undesired tensing of the glutes during the punishment.

Already in ancient Greece there was a similar punishment, the radish punishment , in which a radish root was inserted into the anus of the delinquent .

etymology

There are various assumptions about the origin of the term “figging”. The English word fig means fig . However, it could also be a simplified spelling of the word feague : to feague (obsolete) meant (according to Webster of 1913) something like whip or drive.

In addition, fig was one of the many names for female shame even in Shakespeare's time. The obscene gesture of putting the thumb between two fingers was also known as giving the fig (French faire la figue , Spanish dar la higa ).
