history

Historical savings book

On April 1, 1905, the Düsseldorf district founded the “Sparkasse des Düsseldorf district” at Kasernenstrasse 69. The first shop was a single small room with an account cabinet and an officer: Rendant Eduard Nottbeck. The then district committee secretary Lechtenberg acted as his counter-bookkeeper. In the first year the 63,000 mark deposit on the founding day had become 1.5 million, at the end of 1912 almost 14 million, which came from 7,769 savers. Until about the mid-twenties, the Kreissparkasse had a number of branch offices in Angermund , Hubbelrath , Huckingen , Lintorf and Mündelheim in addition to its Düsseldorf headquarters .

In the course of the local reorganization, the districts of Düsseldorf, Essen (Kettwig) and Mettmann merged to form the Düsseldorf-Mettmann district with administrative headquarters in Düsseldorf. The administrative headquarters were relocated to Mettmann in 1942 due to major war damage to the building, but the Kreissparkasse kept its headquarters in Kasernenstrasse. Business operations continued throughout the war, despite the sometimes indescribable conditions.

In 1951 a competition for the redesign of a representative main office was announced, on July 24, 1953 the new building was opened. Further construction phases were completed by 1958.

The Kreissparkasse's first ATM is installed

In 1952 the Amtssparkasse Gruiten and the savings and loan association Angermund were combined under the roof of the Kreissparkasse Düsseldorf. On April 1, 1955, the Städtische Sparkasse Mettmann and the Kreissparkasse Düsseldorf merged. The balance sheet total was now almost 100 million DM. In 1964 the first large-scale computing system was put into operation, in 1970 the first ATM - a forerunner of today's ATMs - was installed at Kasernenstrasse 69. The last regional reform in North Rhine-Westphalia for the time being, the municipal reorganization, brought about serious changes for the business area of the Kreissparkasse Düsseldorf: four branches had to be transferred to other savings banks.

On July 1, 1981, the merger with the Stadtsparkasse Erkrath took place. Further mergers took place on December 31, 1991 with the Stadt-Sparkasse Wülfrath and on January 1, 2003 with the Sparkasse der Stadt Heiligenhaus. In the course of the brand statutes for a nationwide uniform appearance of the brand “Sparkasse”, there was a gradual change from the logo in blue and yellow letters to the red corporate design by 2011 .
