Metato
Metato is a small mountain village in the province of Lucca , Tuscany , Italy . It is part of the Camaiore parish .
geography
The place is on the edge of the Apuan Alps at an altitude of 414 meters and has about 60 inhabitants. It is located approx. 2.5 km northeast of the main town Camaiore, approx. 19 km northwest of the provincial capital Lucca and approx. 77 km northwest of the regional capital Florence on a western foothill of the Monte Prana mountain (1221 m).

There are only a few houses and a church in the village. From Metato you can see the city of Camaiore and the sea, as the village itself is also on a mountain. The name Metato comes from the Latin for chestnut. The name was given to the village because it is located in the middle of a forest in which there are an extraordinary number of chestnuts.

- Buca del Tasso , grotto and archaeological site on the Carpigna river . Material from the Middle Paleolithic was found here.
