Meteor depth

The meteor depth is a deep sea in the south-western part of the Atlantic Ocean and, with a depth of 8264 m, is the deepest point in this Atlantic area and the South Sandwich Trench .

In the center of this deep-sea trench is the meteor depth north of the South Sandwich Islands and east of South Georgia . It is located around 55 ° south latitude and 26 ° west longitude .

The meteor depth is named after the German research vessel Meteor , from which this point was discovered in the 1920s.
