Meter ton
The meter barrel (abbreviation mt ) is a non- SI -conforming unit that can denote different physical quantities depending on the context.
As a unit of energy , it describes the amount of energy that is necessary to lift a body with a mass of one ton one meter high. It is as outdated as the kilopond meter and has been replaced by the joule . 1 mt corresponds to 9.81 kJ .
In the military field, the unit was used to indicate the energy of large projectiles . For example, the muzzle energy of the "Dicken Bertha" was 38,000 mt, or about 373 MJ .
In the case of cranes, the meter-tonne is the unit for the load - bearing capacity referred to as the load moment in relation to the radius, based on the consideration of the system as a beam scale . This corresponds to a torque or a bending moment , whereby the stroke force is expressed by the stroke mass . 10 mt therefore lift a load of 10 t at a 1 m radius or 1 t at 10 m.
