Metrocable Caracas is a system of cable cars integrated into the Metro Caracas network to transport residents of the mountainous districts of Caracas quickly and safely to the city center and back again. Two gondola lifts and a funicular act as feeders to the metro.
history
Following the suggestion of city planners, the Caracas city council began to build a network of cable cars that would serve as a local transport system to the poorest areas of the capital, similar to the cable cars belonging to the subway network in Medellín (Colombia), and laid the foundation stone for it on November 29, 2006.
On April 20, 2007, construction began on the first line, which runs from the San Agustín district to Parque Central station, where it connects to the subway network. The Ministry of Infrastructure, the Austrian company Doppelmayr and the Brazilian company Odebrecht, which had been active in Venezuela for some time, were responsible for the construction .
MetroCable Caracas entered the test phase in December 2009, and the official inauguration took place on January 20, 2010.
Almost three years later, the Palo Verde - Mariche cable car, which opened on December 10, 2012, was completed. Its valley station is a few meters above the Palo Verde underground station, its mountain station in the industrial suburb of Mariche, which is almost 5 km away. It is also a gondola lift , but it overcomes the distance without intermediate stops in a long section.
The first section of the Cabletren Bolivariano has also been in operation since 2013 , a funicular that travels north from the Petare underground station along the A-01 motorway and is expected to reach the future Warairarepano underground station . It is a cable liner from Doppelmayer. So far it has served stations 19 de Abril and 5 de Julio , which derive their name from the barrios above the route . Another expansion with a distance of one kilometer was delayed by Venezuela's payment problems at the beginning of 2017, as the manufacturer Doppelmayr only wanted to deliver against prepayment. A subsidiary was founded in Venezuela to maintain the existing lines.

There have been studies on a cable car line in El Valle that will consist of two sections, one to El Valle station and one to La Bandera station.
It was also planned to build another cable car line during the construction of the Guarenas-Guatire underground line, which will connect the Caucagüita station with the Mariche industrial area, which is located southeast of the municipality of Sucre.

The cabins were manufactured by CWA and have space for 8 people. They are made of aluminum and work with an on-board electrical system. Each cabin has interior lighting and a communication system. The gondolas run every 27 seconds, which enables 15,000 to 20,000 people to be transported per day.
