The Mezamor ( Armenian Մեծամոր also Sevdschur , Armenian Սեւջուր ; English / French transcription Metsamor or Sevjur; in earlier times also Karasu in Turkish ) is a left tributary of the Macaw in the Caucasus . The names Sevdschur and Karasu literally mean black water .

The entire course of the Mezamor River lies in Armenia in the Armavir Province . The left tributary is the Kassagh . From its source region, the river flows first to the east, where it receives the water of the Kassagh, and then to the southeast, where it finally flows into the Macaw, which forms the border between Armenia and Turkey there .

One of the origins of the mezamor, which is mainly fed by springs fed by aquifers and forming wetlands on the surface, is a small lake between the modern city of Mezamor and Aknalich . Many rare aquatic and marsh animal species live in the wetlands on the very slowly flowing Mezamor.

Much water is withdrawn from the river for cooling the Mezamor nuclear power plant and for irrigation purposes.
