The Kasagh River ( Armenian Քասաղ ;. English transliteration Kasagh or Kasakh also; Kasach or Aparantscha is a left) tributary of Mezamor (also Sewdschur called) in the Midwest of modern Armenia .
It rises on the northern flank of the Aragaz in the province of Shirak . It initially flows east into the Aragazotn province , later turns south and flows into the Armavir province and finally flows into the Mezamor, a left tributary of the Aras . The town of Aparan and the Aparan reservoir are located on the middle reaches . Further downstream, the Kassagh flows through the city of Ashtarak . The Kassagh has a length of 89 km. It drains an area of 1480 km². Some of the river water is diverted for irrigation purposes .
Downstream near the Howhannawank Monastery , a waterfall falls in two stages on the eastern slope of the gorge (can be seen on the panorama picture in the background on the right), which is the highest in Armenia with a total drop of 70 m.
