Michael E. Bobeck (* in Buffalo , New York ) is a US Army brigadier general who served on the Department of Defense's Joint Chiefs of Staff as an advisor on defense against attacks with weapons of mass destruction until his release in September 2016 . In his career he previously held various positions.

Life

Military career

Bobeck joined the US Army in 1979 as an infantryman and in 1983 attended a reserve officer course at college. He graduated from flight school and was on active duty from 1984 to 1997, where he commanded the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment . He then served in the New York Army National Guard, where he was in command of a maintenance facility for the Army Air Force. In addition to various other commands, Bobeck commanded the 142nd Aviation Regiment during Operation Iraqi Freedom 2004.

In March 2015, Bobeck was appointed associate director for Force Protection and Counter Weapons of Mass Destruction to the Joint Chiefs of Staff .

Discharge

Bobeck was provisionally released in September 2016 after an investigation was opened against him for an extramarital relationship and misappropriation of state property. USA Today reported that Bobeck lived in an apartment that an armaments lobbyist gave him rent-free.
