Michael Bordt

Michael Bordt SJ (born April 28, 1960 in Hamburg ) is a German Jesuit and philosopher . Since 2011 he has been director of the Institute for Philosophy and Leadership at the University of Philosophy, Munich .

Life

After graduating from high school and doing community service in Hamburg, Michael Bordt studied theology at the University of Hamburg from 1981 to 1983 and from 1983 to 1985 at the Philosophical-Theological University of St. Georgen , Frankfurt. After completing his intermediate diploma, he switched to philosophy, which he studied at the University of Philosophy in Munich from 1985 to 1988 and graduated with a master's degree in philosophy with a thesis on the concept of being in Plato's Sophistes .

In 1988 he entered the Jesuit order , completed his theology studies from 1990 to 1992 at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich and from 1992 to 1993 at the Philosophical-Theological University of St Georgen, Frankfurt. In 1994 he went to Oxford University and received his doctorate there in 1997 with a commentary on Plato's Lysis . His supervisor was Michael Frede . In 1999 he founded the Munich Aristotle Circle, in 2001/2 he received a research grant at Princeton University , and in 2003 he received his habilitation at the University of Friborg with a monograph on Plato's theology.

Bordt has been working at the University of Philosophy in Munich since 1997, from 2004 as professor for aesthetics , philosophical anthropology and the history of philosophy (focus on antiquity). From 2005 to 2011 Bordt was President of the Philosophy University, since 2011 he has been the director of the Institute for Philosophy and Leadership, whose task, in addition to teaching and research, is to support and train executives in top positions and family businesses. Funded by the Karl Schlecht Foundation, the institute holds academies for young founders, start-ups, sons and daughters of family businesses and highly talented students in the MINT subjects several times a year.

Act

Bordt's philosophical endeavors aim to discuss existential questions of being human through recourse to discussions within analytical philosophy (especially Wittgenstein ) and ancient philosophy .

In addition to his work as a professor, he gives lectures and workshops for executives in top positions in business, politics and the church on value-oriented leadership in companies, leadership ethics , authentic leadership and the like. a. m. and gives meditation courses and retreats .
