Volckmar Leisring
Volckmar Leisring , in the sources also Volkmar or Leissringk or Leisringius (* around 1588 in Gebstedt , † 1637 in Buchfart ) was a German cantor , composer and Protestant pastor .
biography
From 1606 Leisring studied theology in Jena . His friends and fellow students included Johann Matthäus Meyfart and Caspar von Teutleben . During his time in Jena, Leisring had a celebratory speech printed under the title Corona Musices , ie “To praise music”. In it, Meyfart praises him as a musician who is excellent in both theory and practice. After printing various individual works, Leisring published his collection of 5- to 8-part choral movements for worship use under the title Cymbalum Davidicum and a musicological work Breviarium Artis Musices . In 1612 he became rector, cantor and town clerk in Schkölen near Weißenfels. It was probably during these years that he had contact with the composers Melchior Vulpius and Johann Hermann Schein . In 1618 he becomes pastor of Nohra in the Erfurt region and finally in 1629 in Buchfart . Worn by worries about daily bread in the turmoil of the Thirty Years' War , probably no more compositions were created during the parish office.
