Boschaud monastery (1163)

The Châtillon (Castellio) monastery is a former Cistercian abbey in the commune of Pillon in the arrondissement of Verdun in the Meuse department , Grand Est region , in France . It is located around nine kilometers south of Longuyon in the valley of the Othain .

history

The monastery was founded in 1142 by the Bishop of Verdun , Albero von Chiny . It was a daughter monastery of Trois-Fontaines Monastery and thus belonged to the filiation of the Clairvaux Primary Abbey , but was settled from Himmerod Monastery . The place where the monastery was founded in the Mangiennes forest turned out to be unhealthy and was soon abandoned in favor of the later town on the Othain. According to unproven information, the Boschaud monastery is said to have been founded from Châtillon . In Châtillon more never lived than 30 monks and the monastery did not fell the Coming . In 1604 it adopted the reform of strict observance. After the monastery was dissolved in the French Revolution, which probably took place in 1791, the church and monastery were demolished. In 1791 furniture and buildings were auctioned.
