Couple cycles and susceptibility to crises

For his couple synthesis, Cöllen introduced the five work steps of couple form , partner becoming, couple dynamics, couple conflict analysis and couple formation. The aim is to try to combine the dimensions of depth psychology with the dialogue work and the spiritual search of a couple during couples therapy . Based on the development of a "culture of debate" in relationships, Cöllen is currently focusing on the subject of "forgiving in love".

Couple synthesis means in a comprehensive sense a psychological doctrine of relationships and love. In a narrower sense, it is a dynamic couples therapy concept which, from the synthesis of various classic therapy methods, can provide high effectiveness in the treatment and development of the ability to relate and love. The combination of psychology , therapeutic practice and spiritual learning can create a living model for partnership, love and eroticism . Inner soul, couple dynamic and environmentally relevant forces are connected in constant interaction to form a healing concept of action.

The couple synthesis places particular value on the experience of intimacy between the partners. In this context, intimacy is defined as the opening of inner boundaries to oneself towards one's partner. This takes place in a holistically understood dialogical exchange of body, mind and soul. Early childhood experiences with the most important caregivers for child development determine how and to what extent such an opening succeeds. Narcissistic insults and early injuries lead to a self-protection that corresponds to the original threat to the child's self. Crises and disturbances in the current love relationship often result from the unconscious activation of this self-protection that has been learned. The child's self-protection turns into defense and resistance to the partner. The couple's creative potential cannot develop.
