Michael Eitan ( Hebrew מיכאל איתן; * March 6, 1944 in Tel Aviv , League of Nations mandate for Palestine ) is an Israeli politician .

Eitan comes from the Jewish entrepreneur family Hirschsprung from Poland who immigrated to Palestine . After graduating from the city university in Tel Aviv, he served in the Israeli armed forces from 1963 , most recently in the rank of non-commissioned officer . After active military service, he studied law at Tel Aviv University . His political career initially began with the Cherut party.

Eitan was in charge of Minister for Public Service Improvement and was a member of the Likud Knesset . Furthermore, he was Minister for Minister for Science and Technology from July 1997 to July 1998. Alongside Benjamin Ben Eliezer , Eitan is one of the MPs who have served the longest and was therefore temporarily "Knesset spokesman" for the following elections in the year 2009. He currently lives in the city of Kokhav Ya'ir , and was also the founder of this settlement.
