Michael Feldman

Michael Feldman (born January 21, 1926 in Tel Aviv , † 2005 ) was an Israeli molecular biologist , developmental biologist and immunologist and professor at the Weizmann Institute .

Feldman studied biology at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem, where he received his doctorate. 1953 to 1955 he was British Council Scholar at the Institute of Animal Genetics at the University of Edinburgh . At the Weizmann Institute, where he had been since 1955, he was head of the Cell Biology Department from 1961. He was Dean of the Feinberg Graduate School from 1966 to 1972 and of the Faculty of Biology from 1983 to 1985.

He was visiting scholar at Berkeley (1960/61) and at the National Cancer Institute (1961) and visiting professor at Stanford (1976/77). In 1978/79 he was Scholar in Residence at the John F. Fogarty Institute Center of the National Institutes of Health .

He dealt with cancer research and specifically metastasis control, cellular immunology and developmental biology.

He had been a member of the Israel Academy of Sciences and Humanities since 1977 and received the Léopold Griffuel Prize in 1984 .

He was also considered an art expert.
