In 1993 Greger was one of the first experts to point out the possible transferability of BSE to humans. At that time, Greger was working at the Cornell University School of Agriculture.

His book How Not To Die: Discover the Foods Scientifically Proven to Prevent and Reverse Disease (2015) has been on the New York Times best seller list several times . Greger would like to bring a plant-based, wholesome diet closer to a broad audience with the help of scientific research.

Greger donates all income from speaking and selling his books to charity.
