Michael Holthaus

Michael Holthaus (born July 13, 1950 in Wuppertal ) is a former German swimmer.

Holthaus trained at his home clubs Wasserfreunde Wuppertal , Essen 06 and Blau-Weiß Bochum. During his time at Blue-White Bochum under coach Gerhard Hetz he won at the 1968 Summer Olympics in Mexico the bronze medal in the 400-m-layer swimming. He also took part in the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich . World and European records, numerous German championships and German records are among his successes.

For his sporting success he was awarded the Silver Laurel Leaf on November 27, 1968.

After the end of his career as a competitive swimmer, he worked as a sports teacher at the Gymnasium am Ostring in Bochum. He had to give up this job due to illness. He lives in Bochum with his wife and three children.
