Michael John William Green (born August 7, 1929 in Nyassaland , East Africa) is an English painter, sculptor and writer. He lives in London and Molini di Triora, Italy. As a painter and sculptor he calls himself Michael Green , as a writer Michael JW Green .

Life

Born in Africa, Michael Green grew up in Somerset (UK). He worked in England, Canada and the USA, initially for theater, film and television, and later as a textile designer in New York. In 1966 he opened a SoHo studio in Manhattan, New York, co-founded the SoHo Artists Association and began a life as a freelance artist. In the early 1970s he lived for a time in the artists' colony Bussana Vecchia in Liguria, Italy. In 1972 he bought an old farmhouse in Molini di Triora and converted it into a second home and studio. In 1986 he moved from New York to London, where he opened a studio in an old warehouse.

Michael Green is a self-taught artist . As a painter he soon developed his very personal style of abstraction ("Bridge Series", "Painted Drawings"). In addition, he creates collages and collaged sculptures from found objects. Solo exhibitions have taken place a. in London, New York, Indiana and Cyprus. In addition to numerous private collections, the British Museum and the Imperial War Museum in London have also added works by Michael Green to their collections. In 1978 he was artist in residence at Indiana State University in Terre Haute . His prose texts and poems, printed in small editions, are less well known.
