Michael Kimmerle (born December 2, 1956 in Reutlingen ) is a German graphic designer .

Life

After graduating from high school in 1976 at the Johannes-Kepler-Gymnasium in Reutlingen, Kimmerle completed various internships in advertising agencies and screen printing companies, and a few months later began studying graphic design at the State Academy of Fine Arts in Braunschweig . He continued his studies at the State Academy of Fine Arts in Stuttgart and graduated in 1982 as a graphic designer with the thesis "Lifelines - Photography in Social Space".

Two years earlier he had founded the “Rotlicht” photo studio in his hometown of Reutlingen and in 1981, through his participation in the “Typolaub” exhibition and the accompanying publication “Phantasie”, recognized the direction he wanted to take as a graphic designer. Michael Kimmerle works as a freelance graphic artist, painter and photographer in Reutlingen until 1983 when the opportunity arose to work as an art director in the advertising agency "Packenius, Kienpointner, Vandenberg" in Düsseldorf . Two years later he decided to set up his own business as a freelance art director in Stuttgart.

From 1986 to 1989 he worked as a university assistant for graphic design and as assistant to the rector at the State Academy of Fine Arts in Stuttgart with Manfred Kröplien in press and public relations. During this activity at the academy, he designed various catalogs, including for the »Weingarten Symposion« by the Brodwolf sculpture class, »Sculpture and Drawing« by the artist Andrea Zaumseil , »Film« by Bernhard Suhr (1988) and »Landscapes« by the artist Erwin Holl (1989) and before especially »A Self-Presentation« of the Academy, a 276-page compendium on the history, the teachers, their classes and the workshops, was published by Edition Cantz.

In 1989 Michael Kimmerle's atelier "Art Direction + Design" was founded within the architect-animation-designer-office community "Ostend 106" in the southwest German state capital. Ten years later he moved his office to Stuttgart South. His current studio is in Botnang at Eltinger Straße 78, 70195 Stuttgart.
