Hedwig von Below

Hedwig von Below , b. Hennigs, married Schmidt, (born November 1, 1858 in Waldenburg , † after 1913) was a German writer . She also wrote under the pseudonym Hans von Below .

Life

She was born as the daughter of the porcelain and art painter Karl Hennigs in Silesia and spent part of her childhood in Warmbrunn . After the death of her father shortly before Hedwig Hennigs' seventh birthday, she moved with her mother and siblings first to Breslau and later to Berlin .

Hedwig Hennigs initially trained as an actress and worked for a short time at a theater in Berlin. In 1880 she married the former manor owner Karl von Below and gave up her acting career. Her husband died in 1893. Hedwig von Below turned to writing only after his death and wrote fairy tales, novels and short stories as well as comedies for the stage. Her second marriage was from 1899 to the bank director H. Schmidt, with whom she lived in Berlin.
