Michael Knoche (born April 26, 1951 in Werdohl ) is a German German scholar and librarian .

Live and act

Knoche attended the old-language state Görres-Gymnasium (Düsseldorf) , where he passed his Abitur in 1970. From 1971 to 1979 he studied German, Catholic theology and philosophy in Tübingen and completed his studies with a state examination in these subjects. From 1978 to 1980 he trained for the higher library service in Karlsruhe and Cologne. 1985 also followed in Tübingen a doctorate in German studies on the subject of “Folk literature and folk writing associations in Vormärz. Theoretical and institutional aspects of a literary movement ”. This was followed, among other things, as a research assistant at Springer Verlag in Heidelberg from 1986 to 1990. From 1991 to 2016 Knoche was director of the Central Library of German Classics (later Duchess Anna Amalia Library ). He has been a member of the PEN Center Germany since 2019 .
