Michael Mates

Michael Mates (* 9. June 1934 in Brentford , Middlesex ) is a British politician of the Conservative Party .

Life

Mates attended King's College , Cambridge . From 1954 to 1974 Mates served in the British Army, where he rose to Lieutenant Colonel . He was a member of the Royal Ulster Rifles and 1st The Queen's Dragoon Guards . He was a member of the House of Commons from October 11, 1974 to April 12, 2010 . In 1993, Mates resigned as Minister for Northern Ireland after being embroiled in a scandal over business ties with Asil Nadir .
