Michael Parler

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Michael Parler was a stonemason of the Gothic from the family Parler . He was the son of Heinrich Parler the Elder (Heinrich von Gmünd) and the brother of Peter Parler and Johann (es) Parler (Johann von Gmünd; not to be confused with the son of the same name by Peter Parler). Little is known about Michael Parler. He probably came to Bohemia with his brother Peter. In 1359 it is recorded in Goldenkron . He later stayed in Prague , where it is documented until 1383. Nothing is known in detail about his work as a stonemason. A maker's mark from him has also not survived.

Michael Parler should not be confused with the nephew of the same name of Peter Parler, who is documented as a foreman at the Strasbourg Cathedral in 1383 and also not with the master Michael from the Ulm line mentioned when the Ulm Minster was built .
