Michael Schiewack

Michael Schiewack (born January 2, 1952 in Hoyerswerda ) is a German journalist.

Life

Schiewack studied aesthetics and cultural studies in Berlin. He then worked between 1976 and 1980 as a moderator and editor at the voice of the GDR radio station . In 1986 he moved to West Berlin . There he built a media workshop with a focus on youth work. After reunification he went back to the eastern part of the city and became editor-in-chief of the youth radio DT64 . It remained so even after the program was transferred to the MDR in 1992 and the subsequent move to Halle and the renaming to MDR Sputnik . In 1999 he also took over the management of the newly started MDR pop wave "Jump".

In 2005, anonymous accusations were raised against Schiewack that he had his own wine cellar in the Funkhaus, privately drives a vehicle that was sponsored by a Jump advertising partner and was a silent partner in a jingle producer who also worked for Jump on a larger scale . The MDR internal audit then checked the allegations, but could not find any evidence according to the broadcaster. An exception was Schiewack's sponsored automobile, which actually existed, but was properly taxed as a pecuniary benefit and with which he did not violate internal MDR guidelines.

In July 2006 Schiewack handed over the program management of MDR Sputnik to Eric Markuse and initially remained head of Jump. On March 11, 2011, the Mitteldeutsche Rundfunk announced that Schiewack was relinquishing the management of Jump and leaving the MDR with immediate effect.

At the end of February, Schiewack left the MDR, allegedly to pursue new professional goals.
