Michael Schlagheck

Michael Paul Schlagheck (born March 29, 1955 in Gladbeck ) was director of the Catholic Academy of the Diocese of Essen Die Wolfsburg in Mülheim an der Ruhr from 1995 to June 2019 .

Life

After graduating from high school in 1974, Michael Schlagheck studied Catholic theology and English for teaching at the University of Essen at St. Ursula High School in Dorsten . After the first state examination in 1977, he studied adult education, political science and Catholic theology at the University of Essen, graduating as a qualified pedagogue. At the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn, Schlagheck continued his studies in the subjects of educational science, psychology and Christian social studies and received his doctorate in 1995 with a thesis on the spiritual roots of the Catholic Academy's work in education and the theological work of Romano Guardini .

From 1978 Schlagheck worked as an assistant in a Catholic student community. From 1980 to 1992 he worked in various areas of responsibility for the Episcopal Pastoral Office in Essen, most recently as a consultant for fundamental issues in the management.

From 1992 to 1995 he was deputy director, from 1995 to 2019 he was director of the Catholic Academy of the Diocese of Essen Die Wolfsburg. During this time, Die Wolfsburg became a place for dialogue in the Ruhr area for interdisciplinary discussions on various social, political and cultural issues. It was also redesigned under his direction into a modern conference center for the region. From 2007 to 2011 Schlagheck was the representative of the Diocese of Essen for the Ruhr 2010 Capital of Culture . He was responsible for the development and implementation of church projects in the Capital of Culture.

Michael Schlagheck is married to the psychoanalyst Karin Schlagheck. They are parents of a daughter and a son.

Focus

The main topics of his work are the dialogue between theology, culture and psychoanalysis, the relationship between society, state and church, the development of the Ruhr Metropolis and dialogue and cooperation with various companies in the Ruhr area.

Schlagheck is committed u. a. Member of the board of trustees of the Duisburg foundation “Brennender Dornbusch”, as chairman of the board of trustees of the Kirchhellen youth development association “Philipp Neri”.
