Michael Spears (born December 28, 1977 in South Dakota , USA ) is an American actor and singer .

Youth and private life

Michael Spears grew up as the son of Mary Godfrey and Patrick Spears on the Lower Brule Reservation . He belongs to the Sicangu Lakota Oyate people ( Brulé - Lakota ). He has five brothers and a sister, and his younger brother Eddie Spears is also an actor. In his youth Spears played in a band called "Bad Nations" . Today he writes his own songs, mainly on Lakota, with which he performs on Indian “ Pow-Wows ” accompanied by drum music . Spears lives with his girlfriend, who is of Italian and North American Indigenous descent, and has two sons with her. From a previous relationship he has a daughter, Jasmin, and a son, Noah. Michael Spears speaks Lakota , but not fluently. The 1.88 m tall actor works with his father and brother to promote alternative energies .

Career

Michael Spears took his first film role at the age of about 12 in Kevin Costner's award-winning western Dances With Wolves, in which he played the Lakota boy otter . Several supporting roles followed, such as in The Broken Chain alongside Pierce Brosnan , Lakota Woman or in Chris Eyres Skins .

Spears only achieved greater international fame in 2005 through his portrayal of the Dog Star in the Steven Spielberg- produced miniseries Into the West , for which he, along with other actors, was awarded the "Western Heritage Award". In 2007, he won both Tonantzin Carmelo his first starring role in the thriller imprint , in which he gave the policeman Tom Gray Horse played.
