Michael Steiner (born August 10, 1974 in Hallein ) is an Austrian soccer coach and former soccer player .

Career as a player

Michael Steiner came from the offspring of the 1st Halleiner SK to Salzburg to the Federal Youth Center Salzburg, which he went through up to U18. As a 19-year-old he played 8 Bundesliga games for SV Austria Salzburg. He was also used in the 1994 UEFA Cup final. After a planned move to Austria Wien failed, he played for a year at FC Puch , the Salzburg satellite club at the time.

After a year off, he played for Vienna, Floridsdorfer AC and the Fav.AC/Simmering syndicate in the Regionalliga Ost. After a short comeback in the Austria dress with the amateurs, he ended his active career in 1999.

Career as a coach

After the end of his career, he worked in the restaurant business, where he came into contact with Marc Janko . Through this contact he got back to football. At FC Red Bull Salzburg he was the main coach of the U14 team, assistant coach of the AKA U18 team and individual coach. After taking over the youth department from Ernst Tanner in August 2012, he left Salzburg. On October 22, 2012, Michael Steiner followed Hannes Rottenspacher as coach of relegation-threatened FC Pinzgau in the Regionalliga West. After relegation, he immediately rose again with the 2014 championship title in the Salzburg League. He moved from Saalfelden as co-trainer to SKN St. Pölten in the first division. After the club separated from head coach Herbert Gager, Steiner followed him in October 2014, but was soon replaced by Jochen Fallmann due to lack of success.
