Michael Thews
Michael Thews (born September 6, 1964 in Bremerhaven ) is a German politician ( SPD ) and a member of the Bundestag . He has been a directly elected MP for the constituency of Hamm - Unna II since 2013 .
Life
Michael Thews studied at the University of Paderborn and is a graduate chemical engineer and specialist in occupational safety. He was an authorized signatory and environmental officer at Innovatherm GmbH in Lünen as well as a freelance consultant for Concada GmbH (waste management, occupational safety) and consulting engineer at the Wessling Group.

Thews joined the SPD in 1998 and was chairman of the SPD city association of Lünen from 2009 to January 2018 .
He is an advisory member of the SPD council group Lünen and on the board of the SPD sub-districts of Unna and Hamm. In 2013 and 2017 he was directly elected to the Bundestag for the constituency of Hamm-Unna II; Since 2018 he has been deputy chairman of the committee for the environment, nature conservation, building and reactor safety, as well as a deputy member of the committee for economy and energy and chairman of the SPD parliamentary group in the parliamentary advisory council for sustainable development. In the Environment Committee, he is the rapporteur for the area of circular economy, resource protection and sustainability.
He is a member of the German-Israeli and German-Canadian parliamentary groups as well as the parliamentary group Cono Sur States . He is also a member of the parliamentary working groups: AG local politics, AG inland waterways, railways AG, AG civic engagement, Parliamentarians workers' welfare .
Volunteering
Thews is a volunteer member of the mining, chemical and energy industrial union , as chairman of the Arbeiterwohlfahrt -Ortsverein Lünen-Nord. and as a board member of the Heinrich Bussmann Education Foundation. He is a member of the Europa-Union Germany, the Arbeiterwohlfahrt, the Sozialverband Deutschland and the Schützenverein Nordlünen.
