Michael Karl-Heinz Veith (born November 18, 1957 ) is a German biologist and biogeographer . He is professor of biogeography and head of the BioGeo-Analysis department at Trier University .

Life

Michael Veith studied biology at the Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz from 1978 to 1986 and initially dealt with herpetological topics: his thesis was entitled Biochemical systematics and taxonomy of European newts (genus Triturus) . In 1991 he did his doctorate there with Alfred Seitz on “Genetic and morphological differentiation of salamander populations (Salamandra salamandra) on different geographical scales”. After that he was initially a university lecturer at the University of Hohenheim and in Mainz, and from 2005 he was a professor at the Institute for Biodiversity and Ecosystem Dynamics at the University of Amsterdam . Since 2007 he has been Professor of Biogeography at the University of Trier .
