Michael Weimer (born January 14, 1946 in Dresden ) is a German photographer .

Life

The son of the photographer Friedrich Weimer attended elementary school in Dresden from 1952 to 1960 and then from 1960 to 1964 the extended secondary school, where he passed the Abitur. From 1964 to 1966, he did an apprenticeship as a photographer in his parents' craft business. 1970–1974 he completed a distance learning course at the Hochschule für Grafik und Buchkunst in Leipzig , which he finished with a degree as a photographer. From 1966 to 1991 he was employed as such for applied photography in his father's company. He took over the same in 1992 and has since worked in the fields of industrial, furniture, property and architectural photography.

From 1991 to 2000 Michael Weimer took part in the documentation of architectural and art monuments in the area of ​​the former GDR , a project that the Deutsche Fotothek and the Photo Archive Photo Marburg - funded by the Volkswagen Foundation - took over and implemented. During this period Michael Weimer made about 6,700 new photos for the holdings of the German Photo Library of the Saxon State Library - Dresden State and University Library ( SLUB ).
