Michael Will

Michael Will (* 1968 in Kronach ) is a German lawyer and data protection expert and has been President of the Bavarian State Office for Data Protection Supervision since February 1, 2020 .

After studying law in Würzburg and completing his legal traineeship in Bamberg, Will began his professional activity as an administrative lawyer in the government of Upper Franconia in Bayreuth in 1995. After that, from 1997, Will initially worked in the Supreme Building Authority in the Bavarian State Ministry of the Interior and from 2000 in the Bavarian State Chancellery. In 2002 Will took over the management of the department for public safety and order in the Landshut district office. In 2006 Will returned to the Supreme Building Authority in the Bavarian State Ministry of the Interior as a speaker in the field of road law. In 2009 Will became head of the "Data Protection" section in the Bavarian State Ministry of the Interior, for Sport and Integration. During his time in the Bavarian State Ministry of the Interior, Will was also the official data protection officer and member of the data protection commission of the Bavarian state parliament .

Commissioned by the Federal Council, Will accompanied the deliberations of the Council Working Group on Data Protection and Information Exchange (DAPIX) on the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) from 2012 to 2015. During this time, Will also performed the duties of a country observer in the committee under Article 93 of the GDPR.

On January 31, 2020, Will was appointed President of the Bavarian State Office for Data Protection Supervision. The five-year term began on February 1, 2020.
