Once only with Erika (… escaping this world) is a song by the German musician Hubert Kah that was released in March 1983 as a non-album single .

Origin and content

Hubert Kah wrote the very fast song, which was orchestrated in the verses with a rocking electric guitar, together with Claus Zundel , with Kah writing the music; both wrote the text together. In it, the protagonist wants to escape the world with a woman named Erika "in a pink balloon".

Publication and reception

Once only with Erika was released in March 1983 as a 7 "single on Polydor . On the B-side is the song Für die Nacht . Once only with Erika , it reached number 22 in the German charts and was placed for 15 weeks. The song also appeared on numerous Neue Deutsche Welle compilations .

The song was presented in the second edition of the Formula One program on April 12, 1983, among other things, and was announced by the presenter Peter Illmann as “live on our program”. The group then appeared with the song on April 25, 1983 in the ZDF hit parade , but could not place in the top three. As in Formula One, guitarist Markus Löhr was seen in a leather suit as a rocker, which the other band members apparently made fun of, while Kah himself appeared in a pink straitjacket . By Dieter Thomas Heck the title was announced as "the third hit in a row," but could with 8.60 percent of votes in the TED -Voting the television audience only reach the fifth and penultimate place. Another television appearance took place with Caution, Music! , also on ZDF, with Frank Zander on May 2, 1983.

In 2011 a 5:14 minute special maxi version was released on the album So80s Presents Hubert Kah (curated by Blank & Jones ).
