Michaela Ott

Michaela Ott (born January 2, 1955 in Munich ) is a German philosopher , film and cultural scientist , author and translator . She is professor for aesthetic theories at the Hamburg University of Fine Arts.

Career

Ott studied philosophy, literature and film studies in Munich, Paris and Berlin. She held visiting professorships at the Kunsthochschule Weißensee / Berlin, at the University of California San Diego, USA, at the Technical University of Stuttgart and at the ZHDK Zurich. In 1992 she received the Alfred Döblin writer's grant from the Berlin Academy of the Arts . She worked as a translator of theoretical texts from French and as a film critic. Since 2005 she has been professor for aesthetic theories at the Hamburg University of Fine Arts .

Her research interests are post-structuralist philosophy, the aesthetics of film and the fine arts, theories of space, affection and dividuation, questions of art knowledge, biennial research, (post) colonial questions with a focus on Africa.
