Mikhail Marynitsch
Michail Marynitsch ( Belarusian Міхаіл Марыніч ; Russian Михаил Маринич ; born January 13, 1940 , † October 17, 2014 ) was a Belarusian politician and diplomat.
He was foreign trade minister and ambassador to Latvia . In the 2001 presidential election, he ran against the incumbent Aljaksandr Lukashenka . In 2004 he was arrested and sentenced to five years in prison. The sentence was later reduced to three and a half years in prison. After his release from prison he founded the citizens' movement “European Belarus” together with Andrej Sannikau .
